LARGEST UF BASED SWRO PRE-TREATMENT SYSTEM IN THE ARABIAN GULF EQUIPPED WITH NORIT X-FLOW MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY
Water sustainability is a growing concern in the Middle East and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water has taken proper measures to sustain a potable water supply for its communities.
Norit X-Flow received an order from Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction to supply its Norit SEAGUARD UF membranes and Norit SEAGUARD skids for the Shuwaikh Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant which is Kuwait’s first seawater desalination plant using SWRO technology.
With a UF permeate capacity of 350 MLD and RO output of 137 MLD the plant will supply drinking water for over 450,000 residents in Kuwait City. Equipped with Norit X-Flow membrane technology Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction will design and build the plant, which will be located near Shuwaikh port. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2010. Norit X-Flow’s SEAGUARD was introduced in January 2006 and was the first dedicated UF membrane for seawater RO pre-treatment.
