Process water

Challenge

Because of rising costs and growing supply challenges, more and more industrial and agricultural customers are using surface water instead of potable water. There are a few applications in which surface water is being treated by sandfilters. This treatment step partially reduces turbidity and has only a limited removal efficiency for micro biology, therefore the treated surface water is used for low grade applications.

High grade applications were not possible because the current treatment (sandfilters) do not remove micro biology, dissolved substances, such as nitrate, and salinity. The treatment technology needed for removal of salinity is reverse osmosis, however reverse osmosis membranes are susceptible to micro biological fouling and silt that passes through sandfilters.

Solution

X-Flow’s hollow fibre UF membrane screen all turbidity and micro biology. The X-Flow UF membrane provide a simple solution that produces water that meets the highest standards for turbidity and micro biology. The water can either be used directly (if salinity and dissolved substances are within limits) or be fed to a reverse osmosis system (to remove salinity and dissolved substances).

X-Flow’s hollow fibre membrane is available in two configurations:

  • Xiga - Multiple membranes (up to 4) installed in horizontal membrane housings.
  • Aquaflex - Single membranes installed vertically and connected directly to feed and filtrate headers.

The X-Flow Xiga and Aquaflex membrane modules are being produced with ISO 9000 certification.
