Industrial wastewater

Challenge
Wastewater treatment is primarily done using bacterial degradation in reactors using none, low or medium oxygen levels. Clarifying this mixture is conventionally done by sedimentation. Quality and efficiency are limited, leaving room for optimization, as these plants take significant footprints, and do not supply water at re-usable quality.

Especially in the industry the feasibility of treating waste water is improving, when the water is reusable. However the effluent quality needs to be improved, in combination with simple robust processing and smaller footprint requirements.

Solution

Membrane BioReactors (MBR) improve the efficiency of the reactor by allowing the biomass to be concentrated 4 to 5 times and to supply an excellent water quality. The unique side stream solution offers a robust straight-forward solution for improving waste water treatment plants to stand alone MBRs.

X-Flow’s tubular 8 mm UF membrane will allow a bioreactor to run up to 25 g/l MLSS biomass. The X-Flow UF membrane will provide a robust purification solution. It will produce clear water ready for (re-) use in many applications. The water can either be re-used directly (if salinity and dissolved substances are within limits) or fed to a reverse osmosis system (to remove salinity and dissolved substances).

X-Flow’s 8 mm tubes are applicable in configurations up to 8 modules in series, and found their way in MBR applications in the industrial market in areas such as:

  • Leachate, the effluent coming from landfill sites.
  • Food industry, where high COD loads need to be reduced.
